What is Short Track Speedskating?

Four to six skaters at one time racing on an Olympic sized ice rink (30m x 60m).

How fast do they go?

The current World Record for a 500 meter race is 26.9 miles per hour. That makes speedskating the fastest human propelled sport without the aid of any machine!

Where do I get speedskates?

A rental program is available for people wishing to rent speedskates from MOSA. Please contact us to source the appropriate size.

What other kind of equipment will I need?

To practice and compete safely, you will need a hard-shell helmet, neck guard, long sleeves and pants, gloves, shin guards and knee pads. (elbow pads are optional)

I'm not a fast skater but I want to learn. Can I still join?

The Missouri Speedskating Association welcomes all new members, from beginners through elite levels of skating.

What is the distance of one lap?

Each lap around the track is 111.12 meters.

How many laps are in a race?
